BRIGHTER HORIZONS PUBLISHING
"Making A Brighter Future Through Prevention Education"

"Billy The Bully" and "Mindy The Meanie" are new and still waiting on some important reviews.  The reviews and comments received to date about this new series have all been very positive!

Sherry Lewis, 2001 Colorado Elementary Counselor of the year in 2001, writes:

~ Recognizing what bullying is, naming it, and having a good set of tools to deal with it makes all the difference in being a victim or not.  Children can learn to be "Bully-proof". This empowering series of books that D.C. Dailey has created are excellent tools to help teach children about bullies.

Experts Agree!!!
  • Yes "Guns Are Not For Fun" and "Use Your Brains Stay Out Of Gangs" have been reviewed by many experts in the field of violence prevention and safety education. From Ms. Donni LeBoeuf, Senior Programs Manager for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, in Washington DC to Dr. Ronald Stephens, Director of the National School Safety Center, in California and many experts in-between. All agree that this type of education is needed in our schools to help in the prevention of gun and gang violence.

  • Many violence prevention and educational organizations have reviewed and are now listing Brighter Horizons Publishing’s series on gun and gang prevention in their health and violence prevention resource directories.  The American Academy of Pediatrics, Join Together, The Global School House, AMHI Educational Programs and most recently the California Department of Education and Littleton Public Schools. (Home of Columbine) are just a few that come to mind.  I have read this series to all grades K-5 and been greatly supported by such groups as the Million Mom March, SAFE (Sane Alternatives to the Firearm Epidemic) and The Physicians For Social Responsibility.

  • Dr. Ronald Stephens, Director of the National School Safety Center, in Westlake,California writes:   "The timing of your message is perfect." He sends his best wishes for the success of this series.

Here are Ms. Moyland's and some of her first grade classes' comments about the "GUNS ARE NOT FOR FUN" and "USE YOUR BRAINS STAY OUT OF GANGS" two book series:

Ms. Moyland:   "These books are great!"  "I can't tell you enough how much my class and I enjoyed this opportunity."  "The teacher plans were well organized and I love the test questions."  "The fact that they were all focused on this for a good 45 minutes tells you how much they liked the books."   "Most of my first graders could read this series on their own but second and third graders definitely could."  "Some of the pictures scared them (like the picture of the burning house and the guns) but they thought it was good to include them so they could learn!"

Dylan - 6 years old:   "It's useful because then kids won't ever touch guns, they'll do what they need to."  "It would be good to buy this if your mom or dad have a gun."

Sarah - 6 years old:   "I like it a lot because it tells you not to ever play with guns because you   could hurt someone a lot."

Wells - 6 years old:   "I like it because it teaches you things you need to know."

Danielle - 6 years old:   "Talked about jail and the consequences of getting involved with guns and gangs."
